July 1st, 2012 - How does a family of four celebrate Canada Day? For two years now, this family celebrates by taking in a game of baseball at Nat Bailey Stadium, followed by their fireworks extravaganza. We started out with a ride with some of our friends who also love riding their bikes, and cycled as a group from Trout Lake to the Stadium at a slow and leisurely pace, our ride leader taking lots of pictures along the way.
I love being able to get to many of the activities available to us in this city just by getting on our bikes. At first, some of the hills can be quite daunting, especially when you're hauling two children in a bike trailer, but it is a real accomplishment when you make it to the top. The added bonus for Chris, my husband who had the pleasure of hauling the kids this time around, was knowing the trip home was all downhill!
It was a fantastic evening, complete with popcorn, which the kids managed to gobble up in the space of two innings. Sadly, our Vancouver Canadians didn't win, but the fireworks display that followed, complimented by a cheesy sing-a-long of some popular Canadian artists, was enough to help us forget the loss and end the evening on a high. Chris and I enjoyed a quiet night ride home while our little ones dozed in the trailer, and we finished another Canada Day feeling so lucky to live where and how we do!
